So, the new NBFG site launched last week with the first batch of niceness for the AW season. For me this is the piece I enjoyed designing the most. Super self indulgent typographic path nerdery. Only to be matched by and equal amount of music nerdery. But more about that later…

This week, in preparation of the Addict launch and giveaway, NBFG hooked up with super talented photographer and graf artist Ethel to shoot our girl Ren in the SS08 MethodZip hoodies. For those who for some reason aren’t acquainted with Ethel’s work - she’s the girl behind all of the amazing photos for Insa, as well as being a seriously accomplished graf writer in her own right. This is the 59Fifty I designed for the New Era Sessions. The cap was originally designed back in April ‘07 for the Sessions; where artists and designers were invited to use the 59Fifty as a blank canvas. Only 6 samples of each were made and showcased in flagship store exhibitions. This was my piece; Strawberries & Cream. The fruits of my labour! The Sessions Exhibition was on show at The New Era London Flagship store throughout December 07.

This shot was created for holiday season ‘06 to showcase the first NBFG Signature script hoodies. The image was shot and comped using one Tungsten lamp, a Cybershot and a dash of Photoshop science. After a visit to Sainsbury’s to buy nappies a dishbrush and some Moet - as we do - we were set to do the shoot. Thanks to Milly aka Milldilla the Millyonairre for putting up with me going “left arm up a bit, a bit more, and towards me a bit…’ etc, all day. I’m annoying I know. The image was inspired by Kali, a complex and contradictory Indian goddess.

Damn, I forgot I did these. They’ve been sittin’ on my shelf until someone emailed me about them last week. I designed these letters a while back now, made them into badges in the summer, indulged my ocd by dividing up the colours and compiling them into alphabet sets… Then promptly forgot about them. Only 26 sets in existence. Mail me if you want some.

My real passion is for designing new styles but I’ve always got time for the odd pastiche. It’s all about what you bring to it. Experimental Jetset’s original Beatle’s; John& Paul& Ringo& George tee has got to be the most emulated tee of recent times. Those guys created a beast, but it was the way they celebrate the other versions that inspired me to do this one back in ‘06. People always ask about this tee when I’m wearing mine and I tell them to go google it! For those that don’t know, these are 4 female emcees from the eighties, famous for their rivalry and battle raps. Roxanne Shante was the first female I ever heard on Electro 6 (my brother had it). It was “Roxanne’s Revenge” the answer to UTFO’s “Roxanne, Roxanne” and it was 1985 and I thought it was the best thing I had ever heard. Roxanne later went on to battle Sparky Dee, and there were many other answer records as part of that never-ending Roxanne saga. MC Lyte and Antoinette also put their issues with each other down on wax in 87/88. So these are my top ladies from eighties battleland. My ultimate fan shirt and one fo’ the heads!
